I agree with you, David. I loved, and still do, sports. I participated in girls' intramurals after school. Once a year we had Sports' Day for girls with other KCSD schools. We played but never had any coaching from the gym teachers. We were always beaten except for in table tennis. My sister and I took first place in my junior year of all the KCMSD schools that participated. We took first place only because we practiced and practiced in our basement for the tournament as well in the girls' gym during intramurals. We even beat the Waechter sisters. We received a first-place medal, which I still have, somewhere. While I am not a person who needs accolades, it would have been nice to be recognized during the daily PA announcements. Sports for girls were not important in our generation. Now with Title IX, girls have a wonderful opportunity to participate in any sport they want to play sports. I'm so happy for them. My grandniece was on the girls' varsity volleyball team starting her freshman year. She was quite good.
