HS graduation, off to Stanford, degrees in Psychology and Human Biology, met future husband, graduate school at Boston University (master's in social work), marriage for 27 years, ultimately entered med school at UMKC, training at Children's Mercy Hospital, moved to Los Angeles, stayed for 19 years, had two kids, survived breast cancer, got divorced, was on UCLA Med School faculty for 15 years, lived by the water, moved back to Topeka in 2007 for a job as Medical Director of a 36 bed NICU at Stormont-Vail Hospital. In November, 2014, I moved back to California yet again and now live in Ventura, where I have a daily view of the Pacific Ocean. I went back to my "old" job as "just" a neonatologist (no longer Director). It's time to just enjoy life!

My oldest daughter graduated honors and Phi Beta Kappa UC-San Diego, did research on chimps at Jane Goodall Institute in Uganda, and received her Ph.D. in Evolutionary Psychology at University of St. Andrews in Scotland in June, 2012. She did her research at the Yerkes Primate Center in Atlanta with Frans de Waal where she studied deception in chimpanzees. Her work was featured on a Nova TV special called "Animal Minds", and she has presented findings of her research at conferences all over the world and has several scientific publications. She married Tim Eppley in May, 2015 in Austin. They now live near Chicago and have a "Sweet Baby James" Lyddon Eppley, born in 2017. My youngest daughter graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washburn University in 2014 with a degree in English Literature. She lives in KC where she works as a copy editor and aspires to become a book editor.

I love to sail, kayak, read, pursue creative writing, photography and travel. My book, "For the Love of Babies: One Doctor's Stories About Life in the Neonatal ICU," was published in June, 2011.

School Story

I remember chocolate cream pie from the cafeteria, dissecting a fetal pig in biology class, passing notes in senior math class to Molly and barely passing the class, cheerleading practices all summer long, Pep assemblies, attending dances in the cafeteria, loving concert choir, hating our horribly tacky orange dresses from Indian Belles, Camelot, a coed sleepover at Roger Rowan's senior year, "swimming" in the Meyer Circle fountain at the end of the year, ditch days, taking the SATs in the cafeteria, Ms. Brooks' 8th grade class, Monsieur Selvy, 5 years of French and the French Club (I became a devoted Francophile, thanks to him!!), double dates, slo mo football in the snow at night, getting caught by Wylie Mitchell's parents while tp-ing his house (horror of horrors!!), synchronized swim club (Miss Deets!) in those incredibly ugly school swim suits that clung to our bodies, student council meetings, football games and our fantastic team!, BCCT, swim meets with Carl Noback and Coach Weyforth (state champs!), walking to school with Becky, Melanie, Katherine, Nan, Jane, and Karen, and going to Winstead's whenever we got the chance!!

Who are you looking most forward to seeing at the reunion??

Anyone who comes!! Chris Cooper, Wylie Mitchell, Carl Noback, all those who have been MIA all these years!

Sue, it’s Bill Brimacombe, Bobby Jenkins did pass away recently but elected not to have a funeral. I had talked to him recently when he was performing in a band and seemed just fine but shortly after passed away. Covid aggravated a previous condition. It was fun reconnecting and he seemed fine, a sad loss. Bill

Just read that you have lost your sister Judi. What a shock. You were both so endearing to the entire student body. Equal parts pretty, smart and charming. I will continue to hold those memories as among my most important and loving. Bless her and your entire family.

Open Door Baptist Church KC, KS. She was active in church youth leadership. Her three daughters: Janet Thrasher, daughter and son. Kristy Soptick, son, Jamie Brann, son. She enjoyed many family gatherings at various outdoor venues with wonderful potlucks galore. She was quite the party planner. Fortunately I, Debby Powell-cousin got to see her a couple of days before she died. She kept it a secret about her Pulmonary Fibrosis from me. She was always busy or didn't want to ever let me take her and husband Jim out to eat-I tried numerous times. She was in Hospice care when I last saw her and was kept comfortable. She had a job where she worked around various chemicals and had quit smoking many years ago. When I saw her last summer of 2020-I showed up at her doorstep unannounced and she had been on O2 for at least a year. I didn't know then that she had the lung disease already for about 2 1/2 years. Donna was a creative soul. She was a dear friend and cousin for what part of her life I was allowed in. She also was married previously to Dennis Ralston, one of our classmates who was included and his parents were included in the family gatherings that I was priviledged to be included as well.
