Ronald Ray Weigand

Ronald Ray Weigand, age 73, of Olathe, Kansas, was called home on Friday, October 18, 2024. He was born May 30, 1951 in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Ron was raised with his one brother, Bill, in Waldo, Kansas City, Missouri. Ron graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1969. In October, 1969, he joined the United States Navy. He was stationed in San Diego, California in Boot Camp from October thru December, 1969. In January thru March, 1970, he attended Aviation Mechanic School in Millington, Tennessee. Ron was stationed in Kingsville, Texas from 1970-1973 as a Jet Engine Mechanic. He was then assigned to the USS Lexington during Squadron training. He watched the dolphins and sunsets from the fan tail of the carrier. Ron was discharged in November, 1973 as a Second Class Petty Officer, Rank ADJ2.

 Ron worked for Doctors Equipment Service in Kansas City, Missouri for 23 years and Ford Motor Company Parts Distribution Center in Lenexa, Kansas for 21 years. He retired from Ford Motor Company in December, 2017.

Growing up, Ron had fond memories of being with his family, especially on Sundays, in Warrensburg, Missouri, which is where most of his relatives lived. His all time favorite hobby was riding motorcycles with his brother, Bill, traveling through 35 US states including Canada and Mexico over a course of many years together. Ron participated in many biker rallies along with his brother, Bill, and his nephew, David, to support local charities. He enjoyed bowling on leagues with his brother Bill. Ron got a lot of enjoyment from feeding his birds year round.

 His favorite movies were “That Thing You Do”, “The Replacements”, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and The Hallmark Channel. His favorite TV show was “The Voice” because he loved music. Ron’s favorite artists were the Eagles and Journey. His favorite time of the year was football season. His favorite team was the Kansas City Chiefs. GO CHIEFS!!!

 On September 11, 1993, Ron married Carolyn Gartrell in the Mildred B. Cooper Chapel in Bella Vista, Arkansas. During their 31 years of marriage, they enjoyed their travels whether in the US, Mexico or Canada. Ron’s nickname for Carolyn was “Mombo”, which came from the song “Mombo #5”.

Ron was involved with both Chrissy and Kristen performing in the Miller Marley School of Dance & Voice. He took Chrissy to all her “Troupe’ activities, which included both dance and singing performances. He loved watching her use these God-given gifts when she performed in the “Ninety 2 Nothin” band as a singer. It was a tradition for them to dance to the song “Brickhouse.” Ron enjoyed taking Kristen to her softball games on his motorcycle and going to her volleyball tournaments.

 Ron is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and two daughters, Chrissy Edwards and Kristen Rooks. He leaves behind one granddaughter, Bailey Martin, one brother, Bill Weigand, one nephew, David Weigand and his wife Sharon Weigand, one niece, Cheryl Weigand and her daughter Sabrina Weigand, and lots of wonderful cousins.
