Gary Burgess

Gary Burgess

November 25, 1949 — July 27, 2022

Gary Lynn Burgess Sr, 72, of Harrisonville, MO went home to be with Jesus
on July 27, 2022.

Gary was born on November 25, 1949 in Kansas City, MO to Richard and
Gertrude Burgess. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1969 and
married the love of his life, Barbara. Soon after they married, he got drafted
in the Army and served from 1970 to 1972.

After his service ended, he later became a Union Plumber and worked for
more than 30 years. He was known for his strong work ethic and even
when work would slow and jobs

were scarce, he was never unemployed.

Gary and Barbara have been married for 52 years. Throughout their
marriage they experienced a lifetime of love and adventure. It didn’t matter
if they were at home or at the store, Gary loved to yell “BARBARA”, when
he needed her or just for the heck of it. She was by his side through thick
and thin. He always said there’s no way he could survive without her.

Gary loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting were his passion. He always
said, “I don’t like to fish, I just like to catch them.” He loved spending time
at deer camp in Braymer with his family and friends. He never saw a deer
that he didn’t want to kill and counted the days until bow season when he
could get “just one more” mount in his living room!

He was an expert fire maker, especially when the fire was in his infamous
PaPa Pit. A master storyteller, he was the center of the fun and laughs at
every gathering.

Gary loved his family fiercely….and they loved him back that same way.

Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Burgess, his children
Gary Burgess (Kim), Gina Harlow and Ginny Davis. Sisters, Linda Butner,
Karen Ensminger (Charlie) and Debbie Bourn (Jim). Along with his
grandchildren Jackson, Cole, Nolan, Bridget, Maci, Emilee and Brock as
well as his nieces and nephews all whom he dearly loved.

A visitation is scheduled for 1:30 PM with services to follow at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd., Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the H8 Cancer Foundation at h8cancer.org or checks can be mailed to 2310 S. Redwood Ave, Independence, MO 64057.

Gary was one of the Hartman and Bingham kids, coming into SW later.  He lived a full life as mentioned in his obituary.  Serving both our Lord and our Country.  Sleep well good and faithful servant.
