Obituary
Jay Peter Barrington, 73, of Wildwood, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024; leaving behind his beloved wife, Elizabeth Barrington, sons Mark and Kyle (Jessica), step-children Kendall Brewer and Brandt McCartney, grandsons Patrick and Oliver, granddaughters Anabelle and Lucy, and cousins Leanne Gallison and Barney Olsen, along with a myriad of deeply loved friends and extended family.
Born January 10, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri to parents Jay Peter Barrington (Sr) and Jeane Barrington, he attended Southwest High School in KC and excelled at swimming, track, music and scouting, where he achieved the highest level of Eagle Scout. He continued his academic excellence at the University of Missouri-Columbia, enjoying the brotherhood at the ATO fraternity and marrying his college sweetheart, Carol Deane Vickroy.
After graduating with a degree in accounting, Jay and Carol worked with Bill and Vonette Bright at the Campus Crusade headquarters in California. He continued his accounting career working at Price Waterhouse Coopers before starting his own accounting firm in 1985. Humes and Barrington became a highly recognized and valued St. Louis CPA firm over the next 25 years. Jay finished out his career working as a consultant, mediator, and forensic accountant.
As generous and kind as he was handsome, with shining blue eyes and a smile that could light up the room, Jay was the sort of person who made everyone he talked with feel special. His deep and abiding love for His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, shaped and permeated every aspect and relationship in his life. Whether he was working tirelessly for his clients and employees, teaching hundreds of young men at Bible Study Fellowship, serving sacrificially as an elder and teacher at his church, performing magic tricks to the delight and amazement of children and adults alike, or climbing endless 14ers in the mountains of Colorado with anyone who was crazy enough to join him - the impact of Jay’s love and faith reached far and wide. His gentleness, patience, compassion, servant-hearted leadership, and fervent pursuit of God’s word were a blessing and an example to many, and a conduit of God’s comfort, peace, and strength. A more loving husband, devoted father, and faithful friend than Jay Barrington would be very hard to find.
Jay has joined his beloved wife Carol, firstborn son Andrew, mother-in-law Mary Deane Johanning, and stepson Matt Brewer in Heaven along with his parents and sister Janice, as well as many other saints he cherished. He was deeply loved, and he will be greatly missed.
