Bill was a wonderful guy, and very funny, too.  I was shocked to just read about him.  He lived about three blocks away from me during high school, and I always enjoyed any time spent with him.  That's why I mentioned him as a specific memory on my page back at the time of the 40th reunion.  I feel very sad about his death, and also I feel sad that I know very little about him since high school.  I would be very glad to ready anything anyone can add to Carole's special posting.

Bill and I were very close during our junior and senior years in high school. It seems we spent an inordinate amount of time on the Kansas side of the state line drinking pitchers of beer and trying to "pick up chicks". Actually we spent most of our time eating pizza and, drinking too much, and then trying to figure how we could get home without getting pulled over. I'll never forget the time we went to the State Fair because we heard it was a great place to "pick up chicks', a familiar theme in our lives, but we had very little success. Anyway, Bill got hooked into a game there and lost all of his money, but the carny told to get some more money and he would allow him to continue when he got back. So, in our infinite wisdom we drove all the way back to KC and he had to sneak into his house to try to find some money because he was sure he was going to win. Needless to say he found some money (not sure where exactly), we drove back to Sedalia (my car and gas), and he promptly lost the rest of the money, as well as mine, we didn't "pick up any chicks", and we slept in the car. What a great time we had that weekend between our junior and senior year of high school.

Bill convinced me that we should both go to Southwest Missouri State which we did, and also pledge Sigma Chi which we did because we would have a great chance to "pick up chicks". He was obsessed with this quest until he met and eventually married Carole. We had a great time at SMS and eventually many Southwest Alumni als pledged Sigma Chi including Larry Renfro, Eric Melgaard, Chuck Champion, Danny Noteis, Ted Sykes, Dennis Tyrl, and John Jaszack. In addition, Carole and Cheryl Foster and Patty Jenkins also came to SMS. We had a great time and forged lifelong friendships through our affiliation with Sigma Chi.

I will miss Bill and the wonderful times we had and I only wish he had been closer over the last several years. The last email I received from him just last year was short and sweet asking me if I wanted to "go get some pizza and pick up some chicks". What a great friend he was to all that truly new and cared for him.
